Miracle Preemie Heads Home

Baby Harper weighed 11.3 ounces, less than a can of soda, when she was born four months early this summer at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, Mich. “She’s the smallest baby that we’ve ever resuscitated at Covenant,” said Dr. Martin Nwanko, Pediatrix-affiliated neonatologist. “When babies this small ever make it out, they usually come with long-term neurological deficits,” he said. While it was a long road to get to discharge day, Harper went home in November with no major health issues. “Emilee and I can’t thank Covenant enough,” said dad Patrick Schultz. “They really gave us the opportunity to have this happen. They took a chance on us and we are so thankful we get to take this little girl home today.”
