The most common side effects for children after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine include pain in the injection area, fatigue and headaches, which can be managed with over-the-counter medications and home remedies. Kristina Deeter, M.D., a pediatric intensivist and specialty medical officer for pediatric critical care medicine at Pediatrix® Medical Group, said the vaccine’s side effects should only last a few days. She advises parents to have their children vaccinated when they can be at home for a couple of days. “Try to plan the vaccination on a Friday so you can take the weekend off,” she said.
